Can you find a couple of hours in your morning - just one day a week? We'd love to have you as a volunteer driver. At 13 delivery routes and counting, Meals on Wheels Erie Drivers deliver more than just a meal. Your friendly face will brighten a lonely senior's day...and to be honest, you'll feel pretty good all day too!
This is a perfect opportunity for a single or pair of volunteers or even a corporate driving team! Please call the office at 814-452-6930 or email Kathleen at kathleen@mealsonwheelserie.org for details.
What can you expect?
Delivery drivers meet at LECOM Senior Living on upper Peach Street between 9-9:30 am to pick up the meals for their assigned delivery route. Drivers are provided with a list of meal recipients and turn-by-turn directions for each stop on their route. With a quick chat or hello at each residence, our volunteers are typically on the road for about 2 hours. When finished with their route, each driver is free to go about their day.
No answer at the door?
Drivers call the office and our staff will reach out to the client and give instructions.
Feel like Mrs. Jones is a "little off" today?
Drivers are encouraged to let the office staff know and we'll take it from there.
Meals on Wheels Erie's clients range from seniors, to the permanently disabled, to Veterans in need. Because Meals on Wheels volunteer drivers are often the only person some of our homebound clients see each day, we are sometimes the first to notice changes in living conditions, health, or behavior. We can offer peace of mind to loved ones because they know someone is checking in everyday.
Volunteer drivers must submit to a criminal background check, have proof of insurance on their vehicle, and attend an orientation/training session prior to being assigned a route. Please call the office at 814-452-6930 or email Kathleen at kathleen@mealsonwheelserie.org for details.
